Text Box: My last newsletter mentioned that we would have a drawing for some monetary prizes in an effort to generate some interest in the association and to have some fun. On September 29th, Julie Nelson from the Materials Lab and David “Red” Horton from District 5 were drawn for a $50.00 cash. Today, December 15th, we conducted a drawing for two $250.00 prizes, one from our Dist. 5 membership and one from our Central Office membership. Mike Smith from District 5 and Tim Chojnacki from the Central Office were our lucky winners. We will have another drawing for a $50.00 prize at the end of the first quarter of 2007 which will be the end of March. Must be a member to be eligible so encourage your co-workers to join. Numbers speak loudly at the capital when it comes to getting legislation passed. HAPPY HOLIDAYS & BE SAFE.

Text Box: Before I get into association business and what has happened since our last newsletter, I want to take this time to wish you and your families a MERRY CHRISTMAS and a prosperous NEW YEAR. Also lets keep our U.S. Troops in our prayers during this holiday season.
Your Transportation Employees Association hopes to be a part of your prosperous New Year by working on legislation to benefit employees.
On September 30th, 2006 we conducted our first quarterly meeting for the 2006-2007 session. We discussed our priorities for the upcoming legislative session that will begin in January. Our lobbyist, Text Box: Mr. Harry Hill was present to inform us of up-coming issues that might effect your Employees Association. One of these is our Retirement System and the fact that it had recently been out performing MOSERS but still could use some strength. The Representative that has been proposing the take over of our Retirement System by MOSERS is retiring so we hope this issue will not be such a priority.
He also mentioned that Representative Mark Bruns is interested in our proposal to increase the states contribution to Deferred Comp. Currently the State will match up to $25.00 per month. One of our priorities was Text Box: to get that amount increased.
Mr. Hill also mentioned that pay raises will be a hot topic again this year. With revenues up for the state, it appears the money is available for another pay increase but the Department is focused and committed to making our roadways smoother and safer. We will have to wait and see. Hopefully Governor Blunt will make appropriations for pay increases.
Governmental Affairs has ask for our support of the Seat Belt law and the Association will support this bill and work for it’s passage. Safety of our employees and the traveling public is important. Passage of this bill will save lives.
